What Are The Most Effective Treatments For Anti-Ageing?
Ageing is a gradual and natural process that affects everyone differently. Over time, the skin begins to lose collagen and elasticity, often resulting in fine lines, wrinkles, and changes in texture or tone. Sometimes, symptoms of ageing may make people self-conscious about their appearance, and treatments can be a great way to boost confidence. So, what treatments are available for anti-ageing?
Treatments for anti-ageing include anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers. Maintaining a proper skincare routine can also help to keep your skin in the best condition possible. Products containing active ingredients like retinol, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin C also support skin renewal, hydration, and collagen production over time.
Read on to find out more about the causes of ageing and the most effective anti-ageing treatments.
What Causes Ageing?
Ageing is a process that we all go through at some point in our lives. Although gradual, it is caused by a steady decline of both collagen and elastin production. Collagen provides structure and strength to the skin, while elastin maintains its flexibility. As they decline, you’ll notice more sagging, wrinkles, and a generally dulled appearance. Fat pads beneath the skin shift and diminish over time, creating a hollowed, sunken appearance, especially around the cheeks, under-eyes, and temples.
There are certain risk factors that can speed up the ageing process, so they should generally be avoided if possible. These are broken down into two categories – lifestyle and environment.
Lifestyle Factors
Lifestyle factors are generally elements within your control, including:
- Inadequate sleep
- Stress
- Poor skincare routine
- Smoking
- Excessive alcohol consumption
- Unbalanced diet lacking in antioxidants and essential nutrients
- Lack of physical activity
Environmental Factors
Environmental factors, on the other hand, are out of your control, but there may be steps you can take to limit the damage caused by them:
- Pollution
- Exposure to UV rays (sunlight) without protection
- Blue light from screens
- Harsh weather conditions (extreme cold or wind)
- Exposure to toxins or chemicals in the environment
Making small changes to your routine and being mindful of these triggers can help slow the visible signs of ageing and maintain healthier-looking skin for longer.
What Treatments are Available for Anti-Ageing?
Ageing is inevitable, but looking old isn’t! Below, we’ve listed the most effective treatments for achieving that youthful, younger look:
1. Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Anti-wrinkle injections soften or eliminate the appearance of lines and wrinkles on various parts of the face and prevent these from worsening. Having regular top-up maintenance injections can prevent wrinkles from worsening or even forming in the first place, and the effect can last longer as the underlying muscle weakens slightly. Frequently, wrinkle-relaxing injections in the lateral canthus (the crow’s feet area) are combined with injections into the glabellar and forehead to soften frown lines and forehead lines.
In some cases where ageing has already begun, anti-wrinkle injections can be combined with dermal fillers to restore facial volume and structure around the eyes, such as with a drooping eyebrow or sunken tear trough.
Common areas treated include:
- Forehead lines
- Glabellar lines (the “11s” between the eyebrows)
- Crow’s feet (lines around the outer corners of the eyes)
- Bunny lines (lines on the nose)
- Chin dimpling.
In my clinic, I use wrinkle-relaxing injections with careful marking and even ultrasound to guide sometimes for accuracy and safety. Treatments usually take under 20 minutes, and most patients return to normal activities straight away. We have introduced the new brand Relfydess which lasts around 6 months in most people – 80% longer than usual.
2. Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers (we use Restylane and the ultra Premium Swiss brand Maili) help to restore lost volume in and around the face, offering a lifted appearance whilst smoothing out wrinkles. They’re especially recommended if you are showing signs of ageing around the mouth, tear trough, and jawline. Many people choose dermal fillers for maintaining that youthful appearance without looking “overdone”.
The dermal fillers we use at Infinity Aesthetics, Restylane and Juvederm, harness the power of hyaluronic acid to effectively reduce facial shadows and rejuvenate your skin’s appearance.
Key areas treated with dermal fillers include:
- Cheeks (to restore youthful fullness)
- Nasolabial folds (lines from nose to mouth)
- Marionette lines (lines from mouth to chin)
- Lips (to enhance volume and definition)
- Tear troughs (to reduce hollowness and dark circles under the eyes)
- Jawline and chin (for sculpting and contouring)
3. Profhilo
Profhilo is another fabulous option for those looking to turn back time. The treatment involves injecting a mixture, primarily made from pure hyaluronic acid into the areas affected by ageing. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally produced in the skin, but levels decline with age. Profhilo replenishes this to restore hydration and support skin quality. It can be used in conjunction with dermal fillers and wrinkle-relaxing injections to maximise results.
Profhilo is commonly used on the:
- Face (including cheeks, jawline, chin, and laughter lines)
- Neck
- Hands & arms
- Decolletage/chest area
- Knees

4. Full Facial Cosmetic Rejuvenation
The full face rejuvenation package can be transformative for those who may have more significant volume loss around the face with associated sinking and sagging of soft tissues. Rather than targeting a single area, full-face rejuvenation with dermal fillers looks at the face holistically. It often involves treating multiple regions to restore overall harmony and balance, lifting the mid-face, softening deep creases, and redefining youthful contours.
By strategically placing filler, practitioners can:
- Rebuild cheek structure.
- Support the lower face and jawline.
- Restore volume to the temples.
- Soften deep lines and wrinkles.
- Enhance the natural beauty of the lips and under-eye area.
This bespoke approach ensures a natural-looking, refreshed appearance, rather than focusing on just one feature.
Fotona TimeWalker II Laser
The Fotona TimeWalker II laser is a versatile, medical-grade device that can address multiple signs of ageing with minimal downtime. Unlike traditional ablative lasers that require long recovery periods, TimeWalker combines precision and gentler fractional resurfacing to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the skin. This can improve fine lines, uneven texture, and skin laxity, particularly around delicate areas such as the eyes and mouth. Treatments are tailored to each individual — from subtle “refresh” protocols for prevention, through to deeper resurfacing for more advanced concerns. Over a course of sessions, patients often notice firmer, smoother skin and a more even complexion without the need for invasive surgery.
Sculptra
Sculptra is a biostimulatory injectable treatment that works differently to dermal fillers. Rather than simply replacing lost volume, Sculptra stimulates the skin’s own fibroblasts to produce fresh collagen over time. This gradual approach restores support and thickness to the skin’s deeper layers, softening hollows and improving overall skin quality in a way that looks very natural. Results develop progressively over several months, making it an excellent choice for those who prefer subtle, long-lasting rejuvenation. A course of treatment is usually recommended, with improvements lasting two years or more once collagen is rebuilt.
HD Radiesse (HDR)
HD Radiesse is another collagen-stimulating treatment that differs from both traditional fillers and skin boosters. It contains calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a gel carrier, which not only restores immediate volume but also encourages the body to lay down new collagen in the injected areas. When used in high-dilution protocols, Radiesse can be applied more superficially to improve skin texture, elasticity, and firmness — particularly in areas such as the lower face, neck, and décolletage. Patients often notice an immediate lifting effect, followed by a steady improvement in skin tone and structure over the following months.
