Profhilo: Everything You Need To Know
Profhilo is a relatively new treatment in the world of aesthetics that focuses on the long-term restoration of healthy and glowing skin. Profhilo can be used as either a standalone treatment or in combination with other treatment options, like dermal filler or Botox. Praised for hydrating the skin from within, Profhilo treatment is much more effective than any topical treatment. But how exactly does Profhilo work?
Profhilo contains a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). HA helps the skin to retain moisture and is often seen in topical skincare products. When injected just under the skin, HA is much more effective at improving the hydration and elasticity of the skin. Profhilo also promotes the production of collagen and elastin, improving the quality and appearance of the skin in the long term.
Read on to learn more about Profhilo, how it’s used in beauty treatments, and the science behind it…
What Is Profhilo?
Profhilo is an injectable moisturising treatment, designed to deliver hyaluronic acid (HA) deep into the skin. HA is a naturally occurring substance already found in your body. It attracts moisture, and Profhilo utilises this to not only add volume to the skin but also improve hydration much better than any topical treatment.
What Is Profhilo Used For?
Whilst Profhilo does fall into the category of injectable treatments, it differs in both ingredients and function compared to dermal fillers or Botox. Dermal fillers are used to add volume to certain areas of the face, whilst Botox is designed to relax wrinkles. Prohilo, however, works to improve the appearance of skin in the long term.
The ingredients in Profhilo essentially remodel the skin, providing elasticity to areas that may be impacted by signs of ageing. This includes:
- Face
- Neck
- Hands
- Decolletage
- Upper Arms
- Knees
- Abdomen
How Does Profhilo Work?
By injecting one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid (HA) on the market, Profhilo provides long-lasting hydration much deeper than any topical treatment used on the skin’s surface. HA helps the skin hold onto water, effectively hydrating it from within.
Profhilo also stimulates the production of both elastin and collagen. This can help address any areas that have lost elasticity and firmness, ‘remodelling’ your skin. The treatment is injected precisely into the skin, spreading under and through the dermis (the area underneath the visible layer of skin). This stable substance then slowly releases HA, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin over time.
Not only does Profhilo hydrate the skin, but it also leads to a significant boost in the quality of the area’s tissue. This is why Profhilo is often referred to as more than just a skin booster, because it also has a significant tightening and lifting effect on tissue.
Although Profhilo is often delivered using standardised injection points, I adapt my approach to suit the individual. Factors such as skin thickness, areas of laxity, and facial structure all influence where and how I place the product for the most natural results.
How Long Does Profhilo Take To Work?
Profhilo begins to diffuse within the tissue after injection. Over the four weeks following treatment, it will begin to stimulate four different types of collagen and elastin. Most people begin to see results a month after their first treatment, but the best results usually come after around eight weeks.
As with any aesthetics treatment, the results and timeline will vary from person to person. It may be affected by:
- Your Age: Older skin tends to have less natural collagen and lower levels of elasticity, so it might take longer to respond to Profhilo.
- Your Lifestyle: Certain lifestyle factors, like smoking, stress, or poor diet, can slow down the healing and regenerative effects of Profhilo.
- The Degree of Correction Required: Skin that has a more severe loss of laxity or volume might need more treatment to reach your desired results.
- Your Body’s Response to Treatment: Differences in metabolism can affect how quickly and effectively the HA stimulates the production of collagen and elastin.
Is Profhilo Safe?
In short, yes! Profhilo is a very low-risk treatment, as it’s injected just below the skin’s surface, avoiding any major blood vessels. To date, over a million patients worldwide have received Profhilo treatment, and there have been no known cases of any significant adverse effects or consequences.
You may experience some redness or bruising after your injection, but this is not a cause for concern and will usually disappear within a few hours. Minor side effects like these are normal with aesthetic treatments and will typically resolve without intervention.
Because Profhilo is injected just under the skin, it’s considered very safe. In my practice, I use a meticulous medical approach to ensure the procedure is comfortable and precise, with minimal downtime.
If you have any concerns about the potential side effects of Profhilo treatment, or have experienced something since receiving your injection, please get in touch with the expert team at Infinity Aesthetics! We’ll be happy to help put your mind at ease.
How Long Does Profhilo Last?
Your initial Profhilo treatment will typically consist of two sessions, with each taking place about one month apart. After the initial two-session course, results typically last around 6 months, though some patients notice benefits for longer with regular maintenance.
Be sure to keep in mind that your health, lifestyle and the severity of your skin concerns will affect the longevity of your Profhilo treatment, so this is not a “one size fits all” answer. For example, health issues might impact your body’s ability to retain the benefits of Profhilo, or you may need to top up your treatment if you have a significant loss of elasticity.
Aftercare is also extremely important for ensuring the longevity of your treatment, so why not read our blog “Dos And Don’ts After Profhilo”?
So, Is Profhilo Worth It?
As with any aesthetic treatment, Profhilo will be suitable for different people, depending on budget, level of maintenance, and the skin concerns it treats. It’s important that you choose the right treatment for your desired outcomes.
