Dermal fillers last for variable times in different areas of the face but in the forehead may last 6-12 months after the first treatment but then longer with subsequent sessions given the layering effect of filler.
Recovery time will always vary between different patients. You can resume most everyday activities right away, but it is generally recommended that you avoid intense physical activity for the first 24-48 hours to minimise swelling and bruising.
It is best to avoid touching the area or applying makeup for around 12 hours after treatment and avoid flying for 24-48 hours. Although avoidance of alcohol is often suggested, there is no evidence this worsens bleeding, but we recommend very moderate intake for the first day after treatment with dermal fillers.
As with any medical treatment, there can be side effect although these are usually mild given that hyaluronic acid is a natural substance.
Swelling and redness is most common, the worst of which tends to subside over 24-48 hours.
Serious complications from fillers such as blood vessel blockage is rare and minimised with excellent technique; hyaluronic acid fillers are also reversible with an enzyme that can be injected.
When injected beneath the skin, botulinum toxin (more commonly known as Botox) reduces wrinkles by lessening the muscle’s contraction.
Fillers, on the other hand, increase hydration to produce a plumper appearance. Filler injections to improve the appearance of wrinkles are another common request, as well as to improve the profile of the forehead. A gentle arc might be produced by smoothing down a concave curve (often as a result of protruding eyebrows or prominent foreheads), resulting in what some might describe as a more ‘feminine’ and aesthetically pleasing appearance, in addition to anti-aging benefits.

Forehead injections should always be done by a practitioner with advanced-level aesthetic training because of the large blood vessels which emerge from the eye socket, making it a comparatively more significant area for complications. Dr Owen uses cannulas with specific techniques to do this safely and reduce any change of blood vessel blockage.
